The agent of Benfica midfielder Nicolas Gaitan has confirmed that his client is interested in joining Manchester United.
The Argentine is due to leave Benfica in the summer for greener pastures and Manchester United appear to be leading the race for his signature.
Sir Alex Ferguson spotted the player’s potential during United’s Champions League clashes with Benfica and the Scottish manager is expected to step up his interest in the player at the end of the season.
The player’ representative, Jose Ibarren, claims that his client is keen on joining the Red Devils.
“Nicolás likes Manchester United a lot – he would like to play for Manchester United,” Ibarren told Sky Sports.
“If there is an offer for him Nicolás would be happy to listen and negotiate.”
Benfica chiefs recently revealed that the Eagles plan to cash in on two star players in the summer and it is almost certain that Gaitan will be one of the two players expected to leave.
The Portuguese giants are interested in Brazilian full-back Fabio and Fergie could use the youngster as a bargaining chip in an attempt to bring Nico Gaitan to Old Trafford.
