FC Porto have agreed to sign defender Nicolas Otamendi from Velez Sarsfield.
The Portuguese side will pay 4 million euros for 50% of the player’s rights, with the option to pay the remaining half by September 5th for the same amount.
The Dragons were looking to sign a replacement for captain Bruno Alves, who joined Zenit, and they managed to tie up the Argentina international for the period of five years.
The deal will be officially completed once the player passes a medical but that is merely a matter of time.
The 22-year-old Otamendi is seen as one of the hottest prospects in Argentina, with his impressive performances at Velez even earning him a place in Maradona’s World Cup squad.
The player started Argentina’s last three games on the tournament and he is expected to become a first team regular in the national team in no time.
