Niemi confirm Pompey talks

Antti Niemi has confirmed he is in talks with Portsmouth about a move to the club.

But the 37-year-old has denied that he has agreed a one-year contract with the club.

Pompey are keen to bring in Niemi as cover for England international goalkeeper David James.

“I have talked with Portsmouth, and there is an interest on both sides,” Niemi told Ilta-Sanomat.

“The deal is not done, that is entirely premature,” he added. “We will see what happens this week, when things should move on.”

Niemi struggled with a wrist injury whilst with Fulham last season and retired from football.
