Nigeria coach Shuaibu Amodu has added Portsmouth striker John Utaka and FC Sion defender Obinna Nwaneri to his squad for a crunch September 6 World Cup qualifier against Tunisia.

Nigeria team official Emmanuel Attah disclosed that Amodu considered Utaka ahead of Club Brugge striker Joseph Akpala, while Nwaneri was preferred to Bolton defender Danny Shittu, who Amodu could not contact during a recent visit to Europe.

Wolfsburg striker Obafemi Martins and Yakubu Aiyegbeni were left out of the squad over fitness fears.

Tunisia lead 2010 World Cup Group Two African qualifying with seven points, while Nigeria are second on five points after three rounds of matches.

Kenya are third in the standings with three points and Mozambique are rooted to the bottom with a point.
