Brazilian forward Nilmar Honorato da Silva has moved to deny reports that he is looking to leave the club at the end of the season.
The 27-year-old appeared to be on the verge of moving to Sao Paulo after the Brazilian club agreed on the transfer fee with Villarreal chiefs, but the forward was unable to agree personal terms with the Brazilians.
During the course of the negotiations, boss Jose Molina decided not to count on the player, but Nilmar returned to the squad when the transfer to Sao Paulo fell through.
The player now explains that he is happy to stay at El Madrigal, at least for the time being.
“Return to play was vital,” Nilmar told reporters after the 3-1 victory over Granada.
“I have two more years of contract at Villarreal and so I’m still here. It is true that in football things change and anything can happen, but in order to leave it would have to be a good deal for both sides.”
The Brazilian started his first game for Villareal after almost a month and he helped the Yellow Submarine record a very important victory over Granada.
Having missed the start to the season through injury, Nilmar has featured in just 10 La Liga games and managed to score 2 goals in the process.
