(GSM) – Villarreal are still alive in the battle for sixth place, beating Valencia 2-0 in Saturday’s regional derby.

Valencia are already certain of finishing the season in third position and lacked some motivation at Villarreal’s El Madrigal stadium.

Giuseppe Rossi put the home side in the lead after ten minutes and Joseba Llorente made it 2-0 nine minutes later.

Villarreal defended their lead but not without losing two men in the second half. Llorente received two yellow cards in the 71st minute and Joan Capdevila followed with a straight red three minutes later.

Villarreal are currently in seventh place, level on points with sixth-placed Getafe. The latter have a better goal difference.
