Portugal manager Paulo Bento will not consider Ricardo Carvalho and Jose Bosingwa for his squad for the Euro 2012 finals.
Carvalho walked out of Portugal’s training camp ahead of a Euro 2012 qualifier against Cyprus in August after learning he was omitted from the starting XI.
Bosingwa then voiced his discontent at being left out of Bento’s squad for the playoff games against Bosnia and Herzegovina, saying that Bento was unfit to guide the national team.
Both players have declared they would not represent the national team again as long as Bento was in charge, and the manager has now guaranteed he will not take the duo back.
“There is no apology that can fix things,” he said. “They will watch the Euro as spectators.”
Bento went on to reveal that feigning an injury ahead of February’s friendly against Argentina was the reason why Chelsea full-back Bosingwa was not part of his plans during the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign.
“A player must never, in any circumstance, fake an injury in order not to play for the national team,” he said. “All his team-mates saw what he did.”
“Everyone must take responsibility for their mistakes.”
