Should he depart Barcelona this summer, Philippe Coutinho won’t be joining Manchester United, according to Sport.
Even though he heavily angled for the move, the Brazilian playmaker has so far thoroughly failed to justify the €160 million Barcelona spent to sign him from Liverpool in January 2018. His unimpressive performances in a Barcelona shirt have quickly sparked rumours of a possible Camp Nou exit in the near future, and despite him saying he was happy in Catalonia and that he wants to stay there, he has been linked with a number of possible destinations – even Liverpool’s fiercest rivals Manchester United.
And while it’s apparently possible for the former hero of the Kop to sign for Chelsea as a replacement for the Real Madrid target Eden Hazard, as well as Paris Saint-Germain who are being showered with pleas from Neymar to sign his international teammate, Coutinho won’t be going to Old Trafford.
Barcelona won the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal clash against United in Manchester, and the player which often caused them problems before was greeted with boos and whistles, which, along with his Anfield ties, have convinced him not to take that path.
