Bayern Munich’s sporting director has confirmed that the club have not yet made contact with Arsene Wenger over the possibility of him becoming their new manager. Niko Kovac is said to be hanging by a thread in his current role, despite their 5-1 demolition of Benfica in the Champions League this week which confirmed their place in the Round of 16.

The sporting director, Hasan Salihamidzic, has noted that he’s been impressed by how much they’ve improved recently.

“There was 100% no contact with Arsene Wenger. We will travel to Bremen with Niko Kovac as our manager and we will win”.

There certainly seems to be a renewed sense of confidence that wasn’t previously on display at the club, to the point where many already feel like the Wenger links are dead and buried before they’ve even really begun.

Bayern will indeed take on Werder Bremen this weekend, in a game that could see them jump up to 3rd place in the table.
