Aston Villa’s Stewart Downing is expected to need until December to fully recover from a foot fracture and make his return to the pitch.
Downing, who joined Villa this summer, initially hoped to make his come-back in October but his foot fracture will need longer to heal.
“I’ve had to have it pinned and that should come out in September. Then it’s a case of building it up,” said the 25-year-old.
“I’m sure I will play before Christmas. The manager wants me 100% right and is prepared to give me extra time to do it.”
Downing broke his foot while still playing for Middlesbrough, ironically during a match against Aston Villa in May.
