The La Liga strike remains in place after talks between the Spanish football League and the footballers’ union failed to advance.
The two parties will convene again on Tuesday, hoping to edge closer to an understanding that would allow this weekend’s matchday two of the Primera and Segunda Divisions to go ahead.
The first weekend of the 2011-12 campaign was postponed, and Luis Gil, spokesperson for AFE, stated he is not too hopeful an agreement will be reached anytime soon.
“The problem is not fixed, I understand that people want to see football, but they have to think about the players who are in a bad situation,” Gil said.
“I would like to be more optimistic, but I cannot. Now, I can only talk about a strike in the second matchday.”
“The strike will remain on if there is no agreement for all issues. We have made a new proposal and now we have to see if we can get closer.”
LFP president Jose Luis Astiazaran added: “It is not up to us that the strike is called off, we can only continue negotiations and submit proposals. We have shown we want to reach an agreement.”
