No hesitation in Dalglish´s second coming

Liverpool new manager Kenny Dalglish has revealed he had no hesitation in taking over a second time when the Anfield club came calling.

Dalglish led Liverpool to three League championships and two FA Cups in a highly successful stint in charge as manager over 20 years ago.

And his second spell in charge was confirmed on Saturday when he took over until the end of the English Premier League season following the departure of Roy Hodgson.

Dalglish said: “When I was phoned early on Saturday morning and asked if I would take the job, it was a straightforward ‘yes’.”

“There are no conditions, there are no promises – I came back here to work at a club that me and my family are eternally grateful for the many things that they’ve done for us.”

“For me it would be nice to get on the football pitch and get to work.”

Former Chelsea assistant manager Steve Clarke has been brought in to assist at Anfield and Daglish added: “It’s important we have good backroom staff and Steve certainly comes into that category. He was instrumental in the success at several clubs, none more so than during Jose Mourinho’s spell at Chelsea.”

“Steve will come in and Sammy Lee will be working with him – with me alongside them. If we are all unified then we’ve got a better chance of succeeding.”

Having lost 1-0 to Manchester United in the FA Cup on Sunday, Dalglish’s first Premier League game in charge is against Blackpool on Wednesday.

Blackpool caused a stir earlier in the season by winning 2-1 at Anfield and are currently level on points with Liverpool on 25.

And Dalglish is wary of Blackpool’s threat this time around.

“We’ve got to be up for the work or we’ll come away from Blackpool with the same result we got here at Anfield,” the manager said.

“This squad of players are a lot better than the form and the points total and they need to start believing that and we’ve got to make them believe it.”

“On the day, Blackpool played really well and they deserved the victory.”

“They have been a breath of fresh air in the Premier League and I think they’ve exceeded most people’s expectations.”

Liverpool will be without talismanic midfielder and captain Steven Gerrard – who is banned after his straight red card against Manchester United in the FA Cup on Sunday – while Dalglish might also miss Joe Cole (ankle) and Paul Konchesky (dead leg), who require late fitness tests.
