According to Radio Monte Carlo (as relayed by Sport), there is still no deal in place for Ajax’s Frenkie de Jong to move to Paris Saint-Germain, despite reports of the French champions being ready to fork out €75million.
Apparently, the players agents, Mino Raiola and Ali Durson, met with Barcelona director of football Eric Abidal and informed the former fullback that there is still no agreement for PSG to sign De Jong. Durson told RMC that the midfielder is focused on Ajax and the only certainty is that he will remain at the Amsterdam Arena until the end of the season.
The 21-year-old remains a high-priority target for the Catalan giants as they look to find long-term successors to Sergio Busquets and Ivan Rakitić. Philippe Coutinho, initially seen as a potential replacement for Andres Iniesta in midfield, has so far spent more time in attack due to the inconsistencies and disciplinary issues of Ousmane Dembele.
Barcelona obviously aren’t prepared to see De Jong go elsewhere, but they will have to step up their efforts significantly to ward off the financial power of PSG.
