Emmanuel Adebayor says he does not regret leaving Manchester City for Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
The Togolese striker joined Spurs on a season-long loan last month and already has three goals in his first two matches.
The 27-year-old had fallen out of favour at City after just a season and a half with the big-spenders, and after failing to secure a permanent move to Real Madrid – following a six-month loan in the Spanish capital – he joined Harry Redknapp’s side.
Although City are playing Champions League football this term, Adebayor insists he is happy with his move to north London.
“I never regret making a decision,” Adebayor said. “When I move forward I move forward, as I told you.”
“If I regret leaving City, I’d regret leaving Madrid, I would regret Arsenal, and I would regret maybe even Metz where I started off. So I have no regrets in life, life is too short to start regretting things.”
“All we have to do is play, enjoy ourselves on the pitch, and if you have to do something then do it with fun.”
“Today I don’t have a regret. I have a lot of friends there (Manchester City) – Kolo Toure, Yaya Toure, Nigel de Jong – and I still love them, so I wish them the best of luck.”
Adebayor scored twice on his home debut for Tottenham in their 4-0 victory against Liverpool on Sunday, and he expects to get a hot reception from Arsenal fans when the sides meet at White Hart Lane next month.
“It’s football – fans are passionate about it and sometimes it’s difficult for players to take, but we are good men and we all make mistakes and we are footballers,” he said.
“Sometimes you can feel a little abused but, at the end of the day, you know how it is, you know how fans react, and I just take it in a positive way.”
