Struggling West Ham were handed another blow on Tuesday with the news that key midfielder Mark Noble will be out of action for a month after having an operation to remove his appendix.

The 23-year-old was taken to hospital on Monday after complaining of stomach pains at the Hammers’ Chadwell Heath training ground yesterday.

He underwent an hour-long operation at an Essex hospital and is expected to be back in around a month’s time.

West Ham are currently three points adrift at the bottom of the Premier League with just six points from 10 games.
