Competition: FA Cup
Market: Norwich win
Odds: 7/5 @ 888sport
In an all Championship showdown on Saturday afternoon, Norwich will make the trip to Barnsley when both sides turn their attention back to FA Cup duties this weekend.
Starting with the hosts, while Barnsley might have enjoyed an immediate boost when they brought in new boss Valérien Ismaël back in October, the Reds do find themselves in the midst of a recent blip. Despite putting in a rugged display away at Championship returners Watford in midweek, the Tykes were hit with a 1-0 loss in the capital and have really started to freefall away from the play-off positions. While fans around South Yorkshire might have been glad to see their side land a mild boost thanks to a 2-0 win against League One outfit Tranmere while on FA Cup duties earlier in the month, Barnsley have lost each of their last three straight meetings against second-tier opposition. Facing a tough test on Saturday afternoon, it should also be noted that the hosts were hit with a 1-0 defeat against Norwich on their recent Championship losing run.
As for the visitors, while Barnsley might find themselves in the midst of an extended blip, Norwich should find the mood in their camp at a red-hot high. Despite losing their Premier League status over the summer, Daniel Farke’s men have bounced back in some style and are a leading contender to secure an immediate top-flight return. Putting in another professional display earlier in the week, the Yellows landed a 2-0 win against Bristol City on home soil. Already holding a seven-point buffer at the table, the former Borussia Dortmund coach finds his side enjoying a very impressive four-match winning run across all formats. With it appearing that defeat against Watford last month was just a minor blip, Farke’s side have suffered just a single loss since way back on December 2nd. Landing that 1-0 win when the two sides faced off earlier in the month, we’re backing a similar away victory this weekend.
