Norwich battle soaring prices

Norwich City boss Paul Lambert admits it is difficult for the club to buy players with inflated prices in the transfer market.

The Scottish manager is attempting to lure players to Carrow Road before they begin their fight in the English Premier League, having won promotion from the Championship this season.

But he said it was hard to bring players in with prices so high in the market.

“It is tough to get lads. Where does the money stop or where do you actually start? I think the prices are really inflated. The money at the minute for transfer fees is out of control at times,” Lambert told talkSPORT.

“We can only do what we can do which I am totally at ease with.”

“We will try to get lads to the football club that I think will go and compete with everybody else.”

Strikers James Vaughan and Steve Morison have already joined the club, while Leeds United midfielder Bradley Johnson is rumoured to be close to signing.

The club received 37 million pounds for winning promotion and Lambert has been told that money is his to use towards the playing staff.

He said he was hopeful of announcing some signings in the near future.

“We are close on a couple at the minute and we will try and get them in by the time we get the group back,” he said.

“By the time they come back altogether then they can get to know each other and hopefully integrate with the ones that are already there.”

“We need half a dozen or so to come in and give us a hand.”

Lambert, who also led Norwich to promotion from League One in 2009/10, said he was happy with the club’s financial position with 90 million pounds set to be brought in over the next few years.

“I am delighted we are there,” he said.

“It has stabilised the club financially from the precarious position they were in a few years ago and it has lifted the whole city.”

The club did confirm that chief scout Ewan Chester will leave at the end of the current transfer window, having joined the club in May 2010.
