The Mail Online understands that Norwich City are close to agreeing a deal for Newcastle United midfielder Jonas Gutierrez, who tweeted his farewells to the Geordie faithful ahead of yesterday’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester City.
The Argentina international moved to St James’ Park five ahead of the 2008/09 campaign, and was part of the squad that won the Championship the following season.
During his time with the Newcastle, he has made almost two hundred club appearances, and scored eleven goals in all competitions.
However, just two of those outings have come this season leading the former Mallorca man to call time on his stay in the North East.
Norwich, managed by former Magpies boss Chris Hughton, are leading the race to sign the 30 year old, who has made just two brief substitute appearances at international level since the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
The Canaries, who extended their winless run to seven games after losing 2-0 to Everton on Saturday, can now be backed at 11/4 to be relegated.
