Norwich City are refusing to comment on renewed speculation they are close to signing PSV Eindhoven forward Ola Toivonen.
Dutch media reports on Tuesday suggested that Norwich had agreed a fee in the range of five million pounds to secure Toivonen’s services.
And the local press in Norwich are also suggesting that club manager Chris Hughton is closing in on the signing of the Swedish forward.
“We have no comment. We do not comment on transfer speculation,” a Norwich City spokesperson told OMNISPORT.
Toivonen, who has scored 77 goals in 175 appearances in all competitions for PSV, is also reportedly a target for Norwich’s fellow Premier League club Fulham.
The 26-year-old – who does not like the style of football PSV play – has openly expressed his desire to leave the club but he still has one year remaining on his contract.
And he believes PSV are asking for too much money from clubs who are interested in signing him.
He said last week when asked about a move to the English top-flight: “It is always interesting. I don’t know, hard to say (what league would suit me). It depends on which team you come to.
“There are teams who like to play long balls and those who like to play by the ground. I prefer the latter.
“The policy of PSV has changed and that’s bad for me…The asking price (for me) is too high. I’ve said it before and I continue to say it.”
Norwich bolstered their strike force in January when they announced the signing of Sporting Lisbon’s Ricky van Wolfswinkel.
The Dutch forward cost Norwich a club-record fee of approximately eight million pounds, and will officially join them when pre-season training resumes.
If Toivonen does move to Norwich, they may be forced to sell either want-away striker Grant Holt, or former Leeds forward Luciano Becchio.
