Norwich to win race for Mulumbu; Reina nearing Napoli return

Newly-promoted English Premier League club Norwich City have won the race for Youssouf Mulumbu.

Newly-promoted English Premier League club Norwich City have won the race for Youssouf Mulumbu.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo international, 28, has put pen to paper on a two-year deal at Carrow Road, becoming the Canaries’ third summer signing following the arrivals of  Graham Dorrans and Tony Andreu.

“The fact that we’ve been able to pick Youssouf up on a free transfer is a fantastic piece of business,” Norwich manager Alex Neil told the club’s official website.

“His arrival will add to the competition for places. We have a strong squad with a lot of players that have done well in the Premier League and Youssouf will bring that competition to the squad.

“He has vast experience of the Premier League but he’s still at a good age. You generally say that a player comes into their peak between 27 and 32, and he’s right in the middle of that.

“He’s another fantastic player to add to an already-strong squad going into the Premier League.”

Mulumbu made 17 league appearances, including 10 starts, for West Brom last season.

Norwich City are priced at 23/20 to suffer relegation next season.

Reina nearing Napoli return

Bayern Munich goalkeeper will travel to Italy this week for contract talks and a medical ahead of a reported move to Napoli, according to Sky Sports sources.

The Spain international, whose current deal at the Allianz Arena is set to expire in the summer of 2017, has been made surplus to requirements following the arrival of Sven Ulreich from VfB Stuttgart on a three-year deal.

“It has been a difficult year,” Reina said. “More so than I thought it would be.

“I really expected to play more. In any case I’ve learned a lot from [Bayern Munich coach Pep] Guardiola and Neuer.

“I have a contract with Bayern but I want to play more next season. Naples is a wonderful place to live because it’s very similar to the south of Spain. I was very happy there.”

Reina made just three Bundesliga starts for the German champions last season and was sent off in Bayern’s shocking 1-0 home defeat to FC Augsburg on May 9.

Bendtner wants Wolfsburg stay

VfL Wolfsburg forward Nicklas Bendtner has revealed he wants to stay at the Volkswagen Arena despite wishing he played a ‘better role’ last season.

The Denmark international, 27, scored just one goal in 17 Bundesliga appearances for Wolfsburg in 2014/15, but did manage to net four goals in eight UEFA Europa League appearances.

“I want to stay at Wolfsburg,” Bendtner told Bild. “My contract runs for another two years. I am sure Wolfsburg is the right club for me.

“It was a fantastic season. I developed as a player and personally. Of course I would have liked to play a better role. I am looking forward to the Champions League.”
