Nottingham Forest have completed all the work regarding the signing of Gustavo Scarpa as a free agent after his contract with Palmeiras expires at the end of the calendar year, according to Fabrizio Romano. They are expected to announce him officially as their 24th addition to the squad for the season next week.
The 28-year-old Brazilian is a versatile midfielder, preferring to play in a central attacking role just behind a striker, but he’s fully capable of playing box-to-box on either side as well.
Having risen through the youth ranks at Fluminense and spent four years as their first-team player, Scarpa joined Palmeiras in January 2018 on an initial loan and the move was made permanent the following summer as a free transfer. Since then, he went on to score 37 goals and produce 51 assists in 211 matches in all competitions for the Brazilian champions.
Scarpa’s only international cap to date came back in 2017, when Brazil coach Tite put him on for 21 minutes of a friendly 1-0 win over Colombia.
