According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Nottingham Forest have made a verbal offer to sign AS Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana. The Ligue 1 side are believed to be leaning towards accepting the €35 million proposal, with easily achievable add-ons to make the sum larger.
Forest are also in discussions with Fofana’s representatives over the prospect, as well as the personal terms of a potential contract, but there are apparently other interested clubs monitoring the situation closely.
The 24-year-old France international has emerged as the top name in a list of candidates for strengthening Steve Cooper’s midfield ranks, which also included Ibrahim Sangare of PSV Eindhoven, Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi, Leeds United’s Tyler Adams, as well as Florentino Luis of Benfica.
Raised at the academy at Strasbourg, Fofana joined Monaco in 2020. Since then, he’s gone on to make a total of 141 appearances for the club, and to earn 10 caps for the World Cup runners-up.
