Spanish Segunda Division outfit Numancia have named former Sevilla and Barcelona keeper Juan Carlos Unzue as their new manager. Numancia were last seen in La Liga during the 08/09 season, and failed to secure an immediate return to the top flight last season. They finished 9th in the 09/10 Segunda Division, fifteen points behind champions Real Sociedad.
Unzue’s was a goalkeeping coach at FC Barcelona prior to joining Numancia. He thanked Joan Laporta and Txiki Begiristian for the faith they had shown in him and also had words of praise for former manager Frank Riijkard and current boss Pep Guardiola.
As a player, Unzue represented Osasuna, Tenerife and Oviedo apart from Barca and Sevilla. He played at several youth levels for Spain, but never earned a senior cap for La Furia Roja.
