Nuno wants to see more records for Wood

Nuno Espirito Santo urged Chris Wood to keep on hitting records after the Nottingham Forest striker netted in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Ipswich Town.

Wood scored a penalty early in the second half to nudge Forest ahead at the City Ground, and though the hosts were unable to add to their lead, they held on to snap a run of two straight defeats in the Premier League.

Forest’s win lifted them to sixth, and key to their fine season has been the form of Wood, whose goal took him to 24 in the top flight for the club.

That means Wood is now level with Bryan Roy when it comes to Forest’s all-time leading Premier League goalscorers.

Nuno told Sky Sports: “We are delighted to keep seeing him breaking records here and in New Zealand because he is a great person.

“The main goal was to bounce back from the two previous games. I still believe it has to be like that to go in the game and fight.”

Wood, meanwhile, insisted individual records are not his top priority.

“It’s fantastic but I want to keep going and keep pushing,” he told BBC Sport.

“The team is delivering chances and opportunities. It’s easy when they’re putting them on a plate.”

Kieran McKenna, meanwhile, had no complaints about the penalty decision which consigned his Ipswich team to defeat.

Jota Silva went down under the challenge of Sam Szmodics.

Many of the Ipswich players angrily protested the decision made by referee Tony Harrington but McKenna held a different view.

He told BBC Sport: “I can understand why it was given. He lunged in from behind and you’re giving the referee a decision to make. I’ve not seen it close up but I can see why it was given in real time.”

McKenna, though, was encouraged by his side’s first-half display.

He said: “We had plenty of moments in the first half. We had chances, we had a lot of pressure. The first goal felt important and on another day, we would have got it. Fine margins.”
