New signing Jamie O’Hara has been thrown straight into the Wolves squad to face Bolton Wanderers on Wednesday.
The Tottenham and former Portsmouth midfielder is chomping at the bit and has a point to prove according to Wolves manager Mick McCarthy, who signed O’Hara on loan until the end of the English Premier League season.
“He trained with us for the first time on Tuesday,” McCarthy said.
“He is good on the pitch and makes demands out of people.”
“He is hungry to get back playing and be settled. He has every chance of being involved.”
The former Republic of Ireland boss is satisfied with the business he did during the transfer window, though he admitted he would have liked to have added Jonathan Woodgate and Steve Sidwell to the squad ‘if they would have come’.
McCarthy wants to see an end to the month-long window: “I think it is ridiculous. If a manager does not want you – you are restricted from plying your trade.”
The Wolves boss believes Bolton – who are in 11th with 30 points – are not yet safe.
He said: “Anyone at 30 points is looking over their shoulder.”
“(Their new signings Daniel) Sturridge and (David) Wheater are two good players. They have two good centre forwards (Kevin Davies and Johan Elmander) ripping it up and two great centre backs in (Gary) Cahill and (Zat) Knight.”
“Everyone has had a lean stage at one stage and perhaps this is Bolton’s.”
Wolves travel to The Reebok Stadium without winger Stephen Hunt, who is out for up to three weeks with a calf injury.
Ireland striker Kevin Doyle returns following a stomach upset and both Kevin Foley and Ronald Zubar are in the squad.
McCarthy is still confident that Wolves can avoid the drop.
“We have never had a period of sustained consistency. If we can show a bit more quality and a bit of luck we will be fine,” he said.
