Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has no intention to leave the Chinese Super League during the January transfer window.
The experienced Nigeria international has been linked with a winter switch to Everton following an injury-hit first season at Tianjin Teda.
Mikel only managed 13 games for Tianjin since moving to China from Stamford Bridge less than a year ago. With his first year in China hit by injury issues, the 30-year-old midfielder was said to be edging towards return to Europe with Toffees believed to be leading the chase.
John Obi Mikel denied such claims.
“I want to stay in the Chinese Super League and play for Teda. I’m sure there will be lots of speculation about me as the transfer window nears but this is a false rumour.”, Mikel told Tianjin TV.
Former Chelsea midfielder is convinced playing in China will not affect his place in the Nigeria squad ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals in Russia.
Nigeria have been pitted against Argentina, Iceland and Croatia in what is believed to be one of the toughest groups and can be backed at 9/4 to end the competition in Russia as the top African team.
