With Europe’s elite once again taking center stage this weekend, we have another stacked schedule from across the continent on our hands. So, for those of you who are looking to place a Saturday acca, we have found a handful of helpful tips that are worth keeping an eye out for.
Saturday October 8th
BST 15:00 Newcastle vs Brentford
While Newcastle might have faced a tricky test on their return from September’s international break last weekend, Eddie Howe’s side put in a hugely impressive display away at Fulham. Eventually cruising their way to a thumping 4-1 romp at Craven Cottage, there is no doubt that the Magpies will be looking to keep up that momentum here. Drawing a line under their six-match winless run, the former Bournemouth boss will also be glad to make a return to home soil on Saturday afternoon. With some in their camp still dreaming of mounting a genuine European charge this season, Newcastle have continued to impress with their largely rugged displays in the north east. Including opening the 2022/23 campaign with a 2-0 victory against Nottingham Forest back in August, Howe’s side have lost just one of their previous 14 Premier League showdowns at St. James’ Park. With that run stemming all the way back to December 2021, the Magpies will be looking to cash in on a Brentford side who are seeking some stability. Marking their return to action last weekend with a 0-0 stalemate away at Bournemouth, the Bees have managed to pick up just a single victory from any of their last six top-flight appearances. With Newcastle picking up a 2-0 win when they last faced off against Thomas Frank’s side seven months ago, we’re backing a similar outcome here.
Tip: Newcastle win & Under 4.5 goals @ 6/5
17:30 Huesca vs Lugo
Marking their return from the international break with a rugged 0-0 stalemate away at Granada, Huesca are enjoying what has been a largely impressive run of form. Heading into the fortnight interval with a 1-0 victory at home against Leganes, Cuco Ziganda’s men have lost just one of their previous five Segunda matchups. Opening this weekend’s fixtures sat just a single point adrift of breaking into the top-half, Saturday’s hosts have also continued to shine on home soil over recent times. Now winning each of their last three second-tier contests in front of their own supporters, it should be highlighted that Huesca have lost just one Segunda appearance at the El Alcoraz since way back on January 23rd. Looking to skyrocket their way up the table here, Ziganda’s side have also gained plenty of praise for their gritty displays at the back. Shipping just a single strike since the end of August, the Aragon-based outfit should be looking to capitalize on a Lugo squad who are enduring an extended blip. Marking their return to action with an action-packed 3-2 loss away at Ibiza, Saturday’s guests have now picked up just a single point from any of their last four Segunda matchups. Likewise, suffering back-to-back defeats on the road and shipping a trio of strikes in each of those consecutive defeats, we’re backing a home victory here.
Tip: Huesca win @ 20/21
18:00 Amiens vs Dijon
While Amiens might have had to settle for a sluggish bottom-half finish last season, Saturday’s hosts have really come flying out of the traps this time around. Marking their return to action last weekend with a 1-0 victory away at Rodez, Philippe Hinschberger’s men find themselves holding a one-point buffer at the top of the Ligue 2 table and with a top-flight return at the top of their agenda. Likewise, heading into the fortnight interval with a thumping 3-0 win at home against Niort, Les Licornes have now won three of their last four second-tier showdowns. Suffering just a single defeat from any of their opening 10 Ligue 2 appearances, fans around the Stade de la Licorne will also be excited by their side’s recent performances at the back. Shipping just a single strike in any of their last four domestic contests, Hinschberger’s side have also enjoyed a real purple patch on home soil. It should be highlighted, Saturday’s hosts have mustered 13 points from their first five contests in front of their own supporters. On the flip side, while Dijon might have snatched a 0-0 stalemate at home against Le Havre, it doesn’t cover what has been a hugely worrying rut for Les Rouges. Continuing to tumble down the Ligue 2 standings on either side of the break, Saturday’s guests have taken just a single point from their last five appearances.
Tip: Amiens win @ 23/20
