West Brom striker Peter Odemwingie has rubbished rumours linking him with a move to Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala.
The Nigerian enjoyed a productive season last term and spent the summer fending off interest from larger clubs around Europe.
Before the start of the current season, Odemwingie penned a long-term contract at the Hawthorns but Roy Hodgson’s leading front man has still been the target of recent transfer rumours involving the mega-bucks Russians.
Anzhi are looking for ways to strengthen their team and see the former Lokomotiv Moscow player as the perfect partner for Samuel Eto’o.
“I doubt that I would accept an offer from Anzhi if I was to receive one. At the moment I like the English Premier League. In the future, we will see,” he told Sovsport.ru.
The Baggies front man admits the future is bright for the Russian outfit and compared them to Chelsea, who are also backed by Russian billions.
“Here [Russia] Anzhi are likened to Chelsea and they are often called a Chelsea clone,” he said.
“It is true that there are many similarities – they both have millionaire owners and great ambition.”
“They have been forming a great squad at Anzhi. They have signed Eto’o, [Yuri] Zhirkov and [Balazs] Dzsudzsak.”
“I wouldn’t be surprised if this team goes on to have success in the Champions League.”
