Russian giants Zenit St.Petersburg have resigned striker Aleksandr Kerzhakov from Dinamo Moscow for  a fee of 3.5 million pounds. Kerzhakov, 27, was at Zenit between 2001 and 2006 before moving east to Sevilla FC.

Kerzhakov joined Zenit from Svetogorets Svetogorsk in 2001. After five successful seasons, he was forced to leave Zenit when Dick Advocaat did not consider him part of his first team side. He transferred to Sevilla, but struggled to impress both Juande Ramos and his successor Manuel Jimenez. Two years later,  Dinamo offered him an escape route back to Russia, and he signed a three year contract with the club. He played in his natural position as striker for Dinamo, but also filled in on the right side of midfield whenever required.

Zenit finished third in the Russian Premier League last season. Kerzhakov becomes the club’s second major signing of the winter window after young Dane Michael Lumb.
