Ivica Olic says he would consider renewing his contract at Bayern Munich.
Unhappy with his role as a substitute, the 32-year-old appeared destined to leave the Bundesliga leaders at the end of his contract in June.
But after receiving high praise from coach Jupp Heynckes, the player has backtracked and hinted he would be interested in a new deal.
“I am here when they need me,” he told Bild.
When asked whether he could imagine staying in Munich for another season, he replied: “Why only one year?”
Olic’s comments come following supportive words from Heynckes, who hailed the Croatia international’s work ethic.
“From my point of view, not much stands in the way (of an extension). Because he has something that few have,” the coach said.
“What distinguishes him is that for 90 minutes he is on the move, he fights hard and is ambitious.”
“I am impressed that after a long injury he is back in good physical shape.”
Heynckes said veteran striker could suitably fill in for Mario Gomez, should the prolific striker ever be sidelined with an injury.
“I have great confidence in Olic and don’t doubt that he can jump in when Gomez goes down,” he said.
Olic has been heavily linked with moves away from Bavaria, with Lazio reportedly willing to offer him a contract worth two million euros a season and Wolfsburg allegedly tabling a contract worth five million.
Olic has started just two games in all competitions for Bayern, scoring once in 13 appearances overall.
