According to a recent report from Kicker, Dinamo Zagreb sensation Dani Olmo will not be joining Bayer Leverkusen during the summer transfer window. The club’s sporting director Simon Rolfes confirmed as much, and while he could just be trying to throw fans off the scent, it feels like this saga has gone on for a bit too long now.
It draws certain comparisons to Wilfried Zaha wanting to leave Crystal Palace, but being unable to make a deal happen. Olmo has done some great things with Zagreb and will almost certainly be remembered very fondly at the club in years to come, but for now, it appears as if he wants to test himself in one of the major European leagues.
While Leverkusen aren’t exactly contending for the Bundesliga title right now, that doesn’t mean they aren’t still one of the most notable and impressive sides currently competing in the top tier of German football.
