According to ESPN, West Bromwich Albion manager Steve Clarke expects his star defender Jonas Olsson to sign a new contract at the club.
Olsson looked as though he was on the move in the summer transfer window, with a £4 million move to Tottenham Hotspur looking to be a done deal.
However, the departure of Harry Redknapp from White Hart Lane meant that deal fell through and he stayed at West Brom.
Now, the central-defender wants to commit his future to the Baggies after starting the English Premier League season extremely well and being one of the stand out performers for Clarke.
The West Brom boss said: “Jonas’ discussions are ongoing. The fact that his agent was here tells you that. In the matches he has played since I have been here, Jonas has been terrific. The contract talks certainly haven’t been playing on his mind.”
He is the current captain of the side and a real leader on and off the pitch, which is one of the reasons why the Scottish boss really wants to keep him.
If the Swedish international is to continue his form throughout the campaign, then he will attract the attention of a number of clubs.
However, if he has penned a new deal then the ball will be in West Brom’s court.
