West Brom defender Jonas Olsson has apologised for smashing a picture frame after at the Britannia Stadium on Monday.

The Swedish international reportedly damaged a piece of memorabilia in the tunnel after Stoke City forward Ricardo Fuller declined his offer of a handshake following the 1-1 result in the English Premier League.

Manager Roy Hodgson apologised for his player after the game, while Stoke boss Tony Pulis claimed there was ‘no excuse’ for Olsson’s actions – regardless of the reason.

Olsson said the incident should not ‘get the focus instead of the good game we played’, but was sorry for lashing out.

“I apologised directly afterwards and will of course pay for it,” he told Swedish football news agency Fotbollskanalen.

“It was heated at the end of the game after our equaliser. Stoke felt that it might have been offside and we were disappointed as we felt that we had good chances to win.”

“Then things got irritated in the tunnel after the game with some mouthing off.”

“I wasn’t involved. Yes, I was annoyed when I left the pitch and then it was cramped and irritated in the tunnel and I hit my arm against the frame on the wall.”

“The intention was not to break the frame, but to hit the wall. I didn’t see that it had glass. I’ll have to pay for the frame and will be fined by the club.”

Olsson conceded he was unhappy with Fuller after the game: “I was annoyed over that, but that was on the pitch. I think that you always should shake hands after a game, no matter what.”
