A 2-0 victory over Aris Thessaloniki FC gave Olympiacos CFP their 23rd Greek Cup final success on Saturday and also gave them a 13th domestic double four weeks after claiming the league title.
The Greek champions started well at the Kaftanzoglio Stadium and opened the scoring 33 minutes into the contest. Serbian striker Darko Kovačević met Luciano Galletti's right-wing cross with a powerful header to beat Aris goalkeeper Marián Kelemen. Aris came close to restoring parity four minutes later when Javito's shot went just wide. However, eight minutes after half-time, Olympiacos sealed the win after another header, this time by Michał Żewłakow, with Galletti once again the provider.
The Argentinian winger almost made it three ten minutes later, only to be foiled by the crossbar. He then missed an even better chance late in the game after Konstantinos Mitroglou was brought down in the box by Diogo Sistón and Olympiacos were awarded a penalty. Galletti missed his spot-kick but despite failing to add his name to the score sheet, his overall performance earned him the man of the match award.
