Hoffenheim have signed FC Twente defender Stefan Thesker and confirmed the loan of midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson to Swansea City.

Thesker, 20, left Schalke in 2005 to join Twente, but has returned to his homeland for an undisclosed fee.

“Stefan is a capable young German player from one of the best academies in Holland, who will continue his development with us,” Hoffenheim sporting director Ernst Tanner said. “I am convinced of his qualities and I wish him all the best with us.”

Iceland international Sigurdsson began his senior career with Reading, spending time on loan at Shrewsbury Town and Crewe before switching to the Bundesliga side in August 2010 for a fee reported to be in excess of eight million euros.

He has made 39 appearances for Hoffenheim in all competitions and scored 10 times, but will now return to England with Brendan Rodgers’ side as he looks to return to form following injury.

Swansea City lie 15th on the English Premier League table, five points from the relegation zone.

“Gylfi missed the summer and most of our preparations due to injury and did not really kick on after that,” Tanner said.
