Competition: MLS
Market: Orlando City double chance
Odds: 1/1 @ 888sport
Hoping to spring a real upset in midweek and continue on their eye-catching purple patch, Orlando will make the trip to Children’s Mercy Park in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Starting with the hosts, while Sporting KC might still find themselves flirting with top spot in the Western Conference, the Wizards are in the midst of an extended blip. Watching Dallas snatch what was a last-gasp winner at Children’s Mercy Park last time out and hit with a dramatic 3-2 defeat, Peter Vermes’ men have struggled to find their feet since returning to regular-season action. Crashing out of the MLS is Back tournament last month thanks to a 3-1 defeat against Philadelphia, Kansas have managed to win just one of their last six appearances on the spin, a run highlighted by a dreadful 5-2 hammering against Houston when heading into September. While Thursday’s hosts might be seen as a landslide pick with the bookmakers, it should also be noted that they were hit with a 1-0 defeat the last time they faced off against Orlando last year.
As for the visitors, while the mood in Kansas’ camp appears to be the most fragile it has been this season, Orlando find themselves enjoying a real summer purple patch. Still with their sights firmly set on securing top spot in the Eastern Conference, the Purples put in what was a thumping display last week as they romped to a 4-1 win against Chicago in Florida. Now landing back-to-back MLS victories, including a 2-1 victory against David Beckham’s Inter Miami earlier in the month, Orlando find themselves on a six-match unbeaten run, collecting four wins against a pair of draws. Also snatching three points off of former champions Atlanta on the road on their recent purple patch, there is no doubt that Óscar Pareja’s men should be confident of once again upsetting the odds in midweek.
