Hackers broke into the website of Spanish first division club Osasuna overnight and posted a fake news story claiming it had rescinded its contract with its Iranian internationals Javad Nekounam and Masoud Shojaei, the club said Wednesday.
“Osasuna wants to apologize publicly for this unfortunate incident and announces that it will take the legal action which it deems necessary to denounce this interference,” it said in a statement.
The fake news story which was posted on its site said Osasuna “was forced” to rescind its contract with the two Iranian midfielders because they were involved in a fight at a nightclub on the outskirts of Pamplona, the northern city, where the club is based.
Osasuna said it had removed the news report, which it called “totally false”, from its website as soon as it was spotted.
