Oscar: I will be starting soon

Chelsea’s new Brazilian starlet Oscar has declared he will be ready for a starting berth in the Premier League within a month.

The 20-year-old midfielder signed from Internacional for 20 million pounds in July and impressed during Brazil’s Olympic campaign at London 2012.

And, despite the challenge of adapting to a new country and style of football, Oscar has backed himself to earn a starting berth soon enough.

“I’m confident I will adapt soon which will help me to play well and earn my place in the team,” he told Radio Estadao ESPN.

“It was like that at Internacional and it will be the same at Chelsea. It won’t take long, in a month I will have adapted and I will be in the first team.”

The Brazilian made his English top-flight debut during the west London side’s opening league fixture, coming on as a substitute in a 2-0 victory over Wigan on Sunday.

Having joined Roberto Di Matteo’s team along with fellow attacking talents Marko Marin and Eden Hazard, Oscar acknowledged he faces a tough battle to break through.

“I’m in good form, I’m doing well which can be seen in training. It was a good performance against Wigan even though I only came on in the second half and played the last 30 minutes,” he said.

“Of course there is strong competition for places, but I have confidence in my football ability.”
