In what could prove to be an extremely lively encounter on Thursday night, rock-bottom Hartford United will make the trip to the Talen Energy Stadium in midweek.

Starting with the hosts, while a hard-fought 1-0 win over Louisville City may have had Bethlehem dreaming of a late charge up the Eastern Conference, Brendan Burke’s once again struggled in their 3-0 hammering away at Saint Louis last weekend. Now sat eight points adrift of securing a spot in the Final Series, they have lost three of their last four appearances and their continued defensive issues will be a huge concern for fans around the Talen Energy Stadium. Managing to record just a pair of clean sheets since the start of March, it is also worth noting that the Steel’s last six consecutive matches in Pennsylvania have seen over 2.5 goals at full-time.

As for the visitors, in almost an identical situation to their hosts on Thursday, it has been another woeful campaign so far for Hartford Athletic. Coming off the back of a 4-2 hammering at home to the Pittsburgh Roverhounds last weekend, Jimmy Nielsen’s men now find themselves sat at the foot of the Eastern Conference. Now shipping 10 goals in just their last three USL outings and with just one win to their name since the 9th of June, their continued defensive issues will be a huge headache for fans around the Dillon Stadium. Already conceding a staggering 53 goals in just 22 USL appearances, no side in either the West or the East holds a worse defensive record than Thursday’s guests.
