With a spot in the quarter-finals of this year’s EFL Cup up for grabs on Tuesday night, Tottenham will travel across London when they make the trip to Leyton Orient.
Starting with the hosts, while Leyton Orient might have found themselves stuck in the bottom half of the League Two table before last year’s campaign was brought to an early halt, the O’s have really impressed many this summer. With a growing reputation for their new-found resolve, the Reds are unbeaten in all five of their opening contests this time around and have really built off of their eye-catching pre-season run. Managing to book their showdown against Spurs after remarkably coming from 2-0 down to snatch a stunning last-gasp winner against Plymouth Argyle last week, Head Coach Ross Embleton once again saw his side manage to come from two goals down to snatch a late point against Mansfield over the weekend. With the red-hot Danny Johnson now finding the net in each of his five matchups on the bounce this season, we could be in for another lively contest at Brisbane Road this week.
As for the visitors, while Spurs might still be showing a string of issues at the back, there is no doubt that Jose Mourinho’s side would have been boosted by what was a dramatic display on the South Coast over the weekend. With Son Heung-min bagging four goals away at Southampton on Sunday lunchtime, the former Manchester United boss saw his side pick up a 5-2 victory on the road and they will be desperate to build off of that result when the travel across the capital on Tuesday night. With the likes of Dele Alli set for a recall when Tottenham travel to Brisbane Road this week, Spurs will simply be looking to avoid a real banana skin, much like they managed to do out in Bulgaria while on European duties last week. In a contest that could prove to be another lively encounter, we’re backing over 2.5 goals in midweek.
