Turning our attention to the midweek Costa Rican Premier Division fixtures on Wednesday night, a rock-bottom U.C.R will host fellow strugglers Santos DG in what should be a contest filled with goals at both ends.

Starting with the hosts, absolutely blown away in woeful fashion last weekend and hit with a 6-1 drumming away at Alajuelense, it has been another dreadful campaign for U.C.R. Ending last season sat 10 points adrift at the foot of the table and in pole position to lift the wooden spoon again this year, the Blues have lost their last three matchups on the spin and have unsurprisingly continued to show some glaring problems at the back. As for the visitors, while Santos DG may have managed to land a mid-table finish last season, they too are in the midst of a real crisis this time around. Also blown away last time out and hit for six against Jicaral, the Red and Whites know that defeat in midweek would send them spiraling to the foot of the table. Failing to win any of their last 10 Premier Division outings, Head Coach Johnny Chávez will be hugely concerned by his side’s continued issues at the back. Also shipping 10 strikes in back-to-back defeats, including a 4-3 loss at home against Guadalupe, Santos DG have now conceded at least a trio of goals in four of their last five appearances.
