Overmars: Ajax aware they will lose players

According to Sport, Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars has revealed the club is aware that they will lose a few players come the end of the season.

Speaking to Fox Sports after the Dutch cup game between Ajax and Go Ahead Eagles, the former Arsenal and Barcelona player said they were realistic at Ajax, they know they will lose ‘two or three players’ next summer. Barcelona have been, among others, heavily linked with two of their stars, centre-back Matthijs de Ligt and midfielder Frenkie de Jong, for a long time.

Numerous outlets have reported that the Catalans are attempting to rebuild their midfield following the departures of Andres Iniesta and Paulinho while Ivan Rakitić and Sergio Busquets slowly approach their declining years. They see de Jong as a good addition to their ranks, while they also need some competition and possibly a long-term successor to Gerard Pique in the heart of defence.
