Overmars: de Jong won’t leave in January

Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars has made a bold statement, claiming that no Ajax players will be leaving the club in January. The Dutch giants appear to be trying to re-establish themselves as a force to be reckoned with in European football, but in terms of what Overmars said, it seems as if it was focused on one player specifically – Frenkie de Jong. The youngster has been heavily linked with a switch to Barcelona, and despite it not getting done over the summer, the general belief is that it will come to fruition sooner rather than later.

It’s one of those transfers that almost everyone knows is happening, and it’s just a case and waiting and seeing when it’ll actually go down. Even if it doesn’t it seems likely de Jong will leave at some point, although Ajax fans can rest easy knowing that it likely won’t be in the winter.
