Manchester United’s Michael Owen will miss six weeks with a thigh injury he suffered in the 2-0 Champions League win over Otelul Galati.
The former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Newcastle United forward lasted just 10 minutes against the Romanian side, straining his left thigh in the build-up to United’s opening goal.
A United spokesman told the club’s official website: “Michael has a thigh muscle injury and will be out for six weeks or so.”
The former England international is likely to miss the club’s entire Christmas programme, and could return against Blackburn Rovers on New Year’s Eve or against Newcastle on January 4.
