Arsenal starlet Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is refusing to get carried away despite calls for him to be named in England’s Euro 2012 squad.
The 18-year-old has put in a number of eye-catching displays for the Gunners since joining in the off-season, registering four goals and three assists in 21 appearances so far.
“There are a lot of English players coming through,” Oxlade-Chamberlain said. “As long as everyone keeps progressing, it will be good for England’s future.”
While eager to represent his country, the former Southampton man insists that he is simply concentrating on helping his side secure third spot in the Premier League.
“It would be very nice (to be involved with England) but I don’t get too far ahead of myself or get carried away,” he said.
“My main focus is to see the end of the season out with Arsenal and help us do as well as we can.
“We have a long way to go to get a Champions League spot and hopefully top three as well. It would be very nice, but one step at a time is the way to go.”
