Palmeiras close in on Gremio in Brazilian Serie A

Palmeiras are second in the Brazilian Serie A after an important 0-1 victory at Cruzeiro in Belo Horizonte.

A victory was of great value to both teams, who began the round in shared second place at six points from Gremio. The leaders lost their match with Goias on Saturday.

Palmeiras took most advantage of Gremio’s defeat. The only goal of the match was scored by Diego Souza after 42 minutes.

The Sao Paulo outfit now trail Gremio by three points but have a three-points advantage over Cruzeiro. Sao Paulo are fourth after a win over Flamengo.
