(GSM) – Panathinaikos went five points clear atop the Greek Super League on Sunday thanks to a 1-0 win at Asteras Tripolis and PAOK’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of city rivals Aris.
Panathinaikos looked a bit shaky on Sunday coming off a hammering in the Europa League on Thursday by Standard Liège, but they finally broke through after enhanced pressure in the second half.
Loukas Vyntra bagged his third of the season in the 73rd minute to break the hearts of Asteras, who looked poised to claim a point.
Then, later in the afternoon, their five-point lead held up as Javier Cámpora’s brace paced Aris’ win over PAOK.
The Argentinian opened the scoring in the 22nd minute to stun PAOK, who had won four straight games coming into the match in Thessaloniki.
Then in the 65th minute Cámpora bagged his second of the game and 11th on the campaign to send PAOK to their first league defeat in 14 games.
