Panathinaikos remained near the top of the Greek Super League thanks to a 3-1 win over Atromitos on Sunday.

All pressure was on Panathinaikos as main rivals Olympiakos had already won their match at Xanthi a day earlier. In order to remain at just one point from the leaders, ‘Pana’ needed a victory over Atromitos.

And it was Kostas Katsouranis to inspire the Athens outfit with goals in the 6th and 33rd minutes.

Paschalis Melissas pulled one back in the last minute before the break, but the guests had their situation complicated by a red card to Marcelo Sarmiento on the hour.

Former Liverpool striker Djibril ended all doubts, netting for 3-1 in the 90th minute.
