(GSM) – Paraguayan international Salvador Cabañas has been shot in the head in Mexico and is currently in intensive care in a Mexico City hospital, reports TV Primero Noticias.

The 29-year-old was reportedly shot in the front of the head, with the bullet unable to find its way out.

“Because of the type of injury he is in a very delicate state,” according to Mexico City official Miguel Angel Mancera.

The forward, who plays his club football for Club America, has made 44 appearances for the Paraguay national team and was voted South American Footballer of the Year in 2007.
