Alan Pardew has warned any interested parties they will have to pay “a lot of money” for Newcastle United’s star players.
Former striker Andy Carroll left for Liverpool in January 2011 for 35 million pounds and Newcastle manager Pardew has hinted that similar figures will have to be offered for the likes of Demba Ba, Cheikh Tiote and Tim Krul.
The former West Ham boss also admitted that if any players are offered improved deals elsewhere, the club will not be able to compete financially after learning lessons from past seasons.
“All of our best players are on long-term contracts, so I would be very, very surprised at them being linked with other clubs,” Pardew told reporters.
“I think anyone who looks at this football club will know we are difficult sellers.
“Someone is going to have to pay a lot of money to take one of our players away – especially considering where we are right now, and are having success.”
Newcastle face West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns on Sunday.
